Roman Arenes and French Terrace in Nimes

This is one of my favorite pictures not for its artistic merits as such but more because it captures so well the clash of the 2 worlds.
The very old and very Roman walls of the Arene de Nimes and the very trendy and very French terrace... The best of the 2 worlds... The expression of what it meant to socialize in 2 different eras: For the old Romans: go out to see another Gladiators fight and show off their status by how good their seats were and, for the modern French: spend most of the day talking about art and politics or just people watch on the terrace sipping coffee or wine and munching on some very expensive but very tasty pastries. The very Roman and the very French.
